Location
The erector spinae muscle group is situated on the posterior side of the body. It lies in the groove next to the vertebral column, and extends through the lumbar, thoracic and cervical regions of the spine.
The erector spinae is composed of three separate ligaments, the iliocostalis muscle, the longissimus muscle, and the spinalis muscle. The iliocostalis muscle is the most lateral column, the longissimus muscle is the intermediate column and the spinalis is the medial column.
